CRETE, Neb. (jimmiepride.com)– The second-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team maintained its winning ways with a sweep of Doane University Friday evening. Set scores were 25-20, 25-15, and 25-19.
Jamestown (16-1 overall, 5-0 GPAC) plays two matches on Saturday, taking on Hastings (Neb.) College at 1 p.m. and Ottawa (Kan.) at 3 p.m.
The Jimmies outhit the Tigers .208 to .029 in the match, despite posting a .139 attack percentage in the opening set. An 8-3 run midway through the first helped UJ create some space and Doane would get no closer than three points at 19-16.
Set two was all Jamestown as the Jimmies recorded 12 kills to Doane’s three. Seven attack errors by the Tigers helped as well, giving UJ a 2-0 match lead.
Saving their best for last, the Jimmie offense pounded home 17 kills in a match-clinching 25-19 third set. After the Tigers rallied to tie the set at 10-10, UJ won seven of the next eight points to pull away.
Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) hit .500 on the night with 16 kills and added 12 assists. Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) finished with seven kills and Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) six. Both Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) (21) and Anna Holen (10) recorded double-digit dig totals. Paige Oswald (JR/Frazee, Minn.) chipped in with 10 assists and Olson, Darienne Johnson (JR/Eastpointe, Mich.), and Hegerle all had two total blocks.
