(NDAgConnection.com) – Final production for the 2021 potato crop totaled 22.5 million cwt, down 5% from 2020, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Planted acres for 2021 totaled 76,000, up 6% from 2020. Harvested area, at 75,000 acres, was up 7% from the previous year. Yield for all potatoes averaged 300 cwt in 2021, 40 cwt per acre lower than the 2020 average yield.
The value of potatoes sold from the 2021 crop totaled $243 million, down 7% from 2020. The marketing year average price was $11.50 per cwt, down from $11.70 for the 2020 crop.
Potatoes sold from the 2021 crop totaled 21.1 million cwt, down 6% from 2020. Sales accounted for 94% of production, down slightly from the 2020 crop.
