VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner Hall of Fame committee is pleased to announce its 2022 induction class. These individuals will be inducted prior to the homecoming football game at Hanna Field on Friday September 30th.
Below are the 2022 Hi-Liner Hall of Fame inductees and some of their accomplishments:
Susan (Umsted) Kringlie Class of 1991
Susan competed in basketball, volleyball, and tennis in her days at VCHS, lettering five times in tennis, and three in both basketball and volleyball. Susan was a five- year starter in tennis, playing both number one singles and doubles during her sophomore through senior year. She was a three-time state qualifier in doubles, winning the conference championship in 1990, following up the next year with the 1991 state doubles championship. Susan was also recognized as academic all-state
for both her junior and senior seasons and was named to the Prince National High School Tennis All-American team in 1991.
Fred Fritel Coach 1993-2013
Fred Fritel worked primarily with the jumpers during his 21-year stint on the track and field coaching staff at VCHS. His work with the jumpers at VCHS paid dividends, amassing twelve outdoor individual state championships from 1998-2006, in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Fred was also the head boy’s/girl’s cross-country coach from 2003-2009 and coached five individuals to all-state honors during his 7 years at the helm. In addition to the success of many individuals in the program, Fred guided the boy’s cross-country team to a runner up finish in the state Class B Cross Country meet in 2009.
Jason Beilke Class of 2004
Jason Beilke participated in football, basketball, and track as a Hi-Liner. Jason lettered 4 years in football, capped off by a exceptional senior season. As a quarterback, Jason earned all-region, all-state, and was selected to play in the Shrine game. Jason still holds eight school records to this day. On the basketball court, Jason was an all-EDC player in both his junior and senior years and holds the school record for blocked shots in a season. In the spring, Jason saw success as a jumper, in both the high jump and the triple jump. He qualified for the state track meet in both 2003 and 2004, placing 3rd in both jumps in 2003, and in 2004 he placed 3rd in the high jump, and 5th in the triple jump. Jason still holds the school record in the triple
jump, with a jump of 44’ 11.75”. Following his days at VCHS, Jason went on to play 4 years of football and baseball at VCSU where he was named all-conference in football three years, and baseball once.
Brittni (Bruenjes) Fettig Class of 2005
Brittni was active in volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, and track while attending VCHS. In volleyball, she was named first-team all-state in 2004. She was also a 3- time state qualifier as a gymnast. On the hardwood, Brittni was a two-time all-EDC
performer, and following her senior season was named to the Lions all-star team. Brittni to this day ranks second in career rebounds, and first in career field goal percentage. Track was truly where Brittni shined, as jumper. Brittni earned four consecutive state titles in the triple jump and added another long jump title to her resume. Brittni still holds school indoor records in the 55m, 60m, triple jump, long jump, and outdoor records in both the triple and long jump. Following graduation, Brittni completed in track at NDSU and was a NCAA division 1 national qualifier in the long jump
Jossy (Bergan) Smouse Class of 2006
Jossy excelled on the basketball court while during her years at VCHS. Jossy was a 5- year starter on the hardwood, earning all-conference 4 years, adding all-state honors during her senior season. In addition to her personal accolades, Jossy lead
the 2004-2005 girls to the state tournament for the first time in many years. Jossy still ranks second in career points at VCHS with 1425 and is in second place for season scoring average at 28.3 points per game, while also ranking in the top ten in many statistical categories. After her graduation from VCHS, Jossy attended UND, where she played 4 years of basketball for the Sioux. She was a two-year starter, and helped the Sioux win the 2009-2010 Great West Conference championship,
while also being named all-conference during her senior season.
