HASTINGS, Neb. (jimmiepride.com) — The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team won for the the third straight match Thursday evening, defeating Hastings (Neb.) 1-0.
Jamestown improves to 4-4-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the GPAC. Hastings suffers its first loss of the season and is now 6-1-0 and 1-1-0 in the conference.
Miarosa Gyllenswan (SO/Menifee, Calif.)’s 74th-minute goal proved to be the game winner as the Jimmies won their third straight against the Broncos.
It was Hastings asking the questions of the UJ defense in the first half, getting off eight shots in the opening forty-five minutes with four of them on target. After Emersen Kimball (FR/Graham, Wash.)’s 16th minute shot was saved by Sofie Jackson-Pedersen, the Jimmies did not get another shot until Kamryn Fiscus (SR/Yakima, Wash.) put an attempt on goal in the 44th minute.
Ryley Bedard (SR/Long Beach, Calif.) had Jamestown’s first chance of the second half in the 71st minute, but once again Jackson-Pedersen was up to the challenge. In the 74th minute, UJ was awarded a corner kick and thirty seconds later, Gyllenswan put the Jimmies in front with her first of the season.
Reigning GPAC Defensive Player of the Week Tea Pence (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) faced two shots in the closing seconds of the match and came up with her biggest saves of the match to finish out the clean sheet. The Broncos had scored a combined 22 goals in their prior three matches before coming up empty Thursday.
Jamestown returns to action against Doane (Neb.) University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
