VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Optimist Volleyball Tournament was held in Valley City for the first time in two years on Saturday, September 17th. 24 total Class B teams from around the area were divided into six pools, four teams in each pool, utilizing six courts at the High School and Rec center. Pool play began at 8am, with the championship and third place match scheduled at 5pm. The Carrington Cardinals won the championship in 2019 over Lamoure/Litchville/Marion. This year, both teams were eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals.
In the morning Pool A play, the Cardinals split with Park River Area, then beat Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 2-0 and Barnes County North 2-0, giving them eight points and the number one seed. Bismarck Shiloh Christian Skyhawks were the number two seed from Pool E, they lost to Northern Cass 2-0, then beat South Border 2-0 and split with Ellendale giving them five points and a two seed.
Bismarck Shiloh and Carrington would both move into the championship bracket and meet in the pre-quarterfinals, the Skyhawks won it 2-1 over Carrington (25-19, 21-25, 15-13). Carrington’s tourney would come to an end, Bismarck Shiloh moved on and met Central Cass in the quarterfinals.
Lamoure/Litchville/Marion was eliminated by Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich in the pre-quarterfinals.
Championship match: Northern Cass vs. Medina/PB
3rd place match: MayPort/CG vs. Central Cass
Consolation championship: South Border vs. Ellendale
Carrington is now 6-2-1 overall and will host fellow District 5 team Lamoure/Litchville/Marion on Tuesday during Carrington’s homecoming week, KDAK 1600/100.1 and newsdakota.com will have the match starting about 7pm.
