JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the past 10 years, the Wilhelm family has held an event to raise money and awareness of Huntington’s Disease.

Huntington’s Disease is rare and affects fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S. every year. But the Wilhelm’s have lost their mother, grandmother, multiple uncles, and a brother to the disease.

Stephanie Johnson says they hold the 5K and Car Show every year to raise money for awareness and finding a cure.

Johnson says there will be individuals from the Huntington’s Disease Society of America Northern Plains Chapter on hand to help answer questions on the disease.

This year, they’ve added a twist to their 5K.

Those who don’t want to participate in the color part can just run or walk in the event. There will be prizes for fastest male, fastest female, biggest group, and best dressed pet. All proceeds will benefit the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

Following the run, registration will open for the car show. Taylor Vining says any make, year and model can participate and is highly encouraged.

Vining added there will be judges including Mayor’s Choice and Rodeo Queen North Dakota. A raffle is also being held with a 1984 El Camino being the grand prize. All proceeds again will go towards the same cause. He added they’ll also be donating funds to the local 4-H club for helping sell raffle tickets.

Both the 5K Color Run and car show will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at Don Wilhelm’s in Jamestown.
