Dickinson, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The #5 Valley City Hi-Liners took down the RV Dickinson Midgets by a score of 27-6 on Dickinson’s homecoming game.
The first half was a defensive slugfest. No one was able to gain any ground during the first quarter. The only scoring opportunity was when the Hi-Liners finally broke into the Midget’s red zone in the 2nd quarter. However they would have their drive stall out and be forced to try and kick a field goal. The kick would be blocked but the Hi-Liners would recover the ball and gain a new set of downs. The Midgets would again stop the Hi-Liners and the field goal attempt would go off the upright. The half would end tied at 0-0.
The Hi-Liners would come out firing in the second half. The scoring got started with a Zack Sykora 1 yard touchdown run after going to him for essentially the entire drive. The scoring would continue with Ethan Miller finding a hole on their next drive and running into the end zone from 35 yards out. Dickinson would not be counted out however as Ben Carlson would receive a 33 yard touchdown pass. However they would miss the extra point. The quarter would end 14-6.
The Hi-Liners would strike back right away in the 4th quarter with another long Miller touchdown run. A 38 yard run from Miller made it 20-6 after the missed extra point. The Hi-Liners wouldn’t be done however on their next drive they gave the ball almost exclusively to Sykora who would cap off the drive with a 6 yard touchdown run making the score 27-7 which would be the final.
Zach Sykora was named the Ivy Real Estate Group player of the game after running for 109 yards (unnofficially) and having 2 touchdowns.
