Thoughts:
The Hi-liner boys tennis team got off to a slow start at Fargo Davies, but gained momentum as the match progressed. Starting with singles instead of doubles for the first round set the players back a bit from their usual routine, ending with a 6-3 loss that was closer than the final result would lead you to believe.

Kai Kringlie continued to lead the team at the #1 singles spot, taking on Jake McCormick who he just beat during the recent West Fargo Invite. He started slow with a tough first set but came back and made it close in the 2nd set. Trey at #2 singles came back from being down 1-4 in the 1st set to lose in a tiebreak. He worked hard but needs to find consistent play from the baseline and at the net.

Alex struggled to find his rhythm against the opponent but his service game was much more consistent giving him some easy points.  Miles played a very complete and solid match at #4 singles, moving around his opponent and keeping the pressure on that resulted in his opponent losing focus and confidence.

Casey rushed the net and hit many overheads, running down balls and forcing a 3rd set tiebreaker in which he won handily.  Max coming off of a sick day struggled with energy level and consistent strokes and serving. He kept it close but could not close out the match.

In doubles play, Kai and Trey played a great match with many deuce games and strong net play with a strong 1st set. They were unable to finish out the 2nd set at 6-5 deuce, but cruised to a quick win in the 2nd set tiebreaker to close out the match.

Alex and Miles played together for the first time at #2 doubles and struggled to get into a groove but had some bright moments of serve and attacking the net. Their opponents showed their experience today by staying in points and strong returns.

Max and Jayden played #3 doubles and showed potential while staying in points but found themselves on the losing end.  We need Jayden to stay healthy and get more varsity experience under his belt.

Overall, the players worked hard and displayed great sportsmanship in their final regular season road match.  Next action for the varsity is at home at 2:30pm on Tuesday against Fargo South.

At the Discovery JV site, the Hi-Liners went 13-4.  The JV is improving on getting into the right spot and racquet prepping.  Also, they all were trying to be aggressive at the net and put balls away.

As we had 6 courts and 11 people, our players didn’t get a break all afternoon which was very good for them.  The JV’s coachability was fabulous today along with their attitudes and effort.  Nice job fellas!  Next Action for the JV is Monday in Jamestown at 4:15pm.
