Jackson Worner (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) captured medalist honors for the second time this season and the University of Jamestown men’s golf team won the team title at the UJ Fall Invite, which concluded Tuesday at Jamestown Country Club.
Thirty-six holes were played on Monday with the final eighteen on Tuesday.
Worner and the Jamestown Orange team finished with an overall score of 50-over 914 (299-304-311), 44 shots ahead of the Dickinson State (N.D.) Blue team. The Jamestown Black team was fourth at 111-over 975 (313-329-333), and Jamestown White was eighth at 180-over 1044 (348-341-355).
An opening round 3-under 69 helped Worner get out to an early lead and he followed that up with a 4-over 76 and 5-over 77, finishing at 6-over 222 and one shot ahead of teammate Gehrig Geiss (SO/Glen Ullin, N.D.) (75-74-74) at 7-over 223. Rounding out the Orange scoring was Benjamin Schaefer (JR/New Rockford, N.D.) at 18-over 234 (77-79-78), tied for fourth place; Max Noffsinger (SO/Ft. Collins, Colo.) tied for seventh at 19-over 235 (78-75-82); and Carter Wells (SR/Huron, S.D.) was 22nd at 36-over 252 (83-79-90).
For the Jamestown Black team, Logan Douglas (FR/Stanley, England) placed third at 17-over 233 (74-79-80), and Adam Nedens (SR/Billings, Mont.) finished just out of the top ten, tying for 12th at 23-over 239 (75-81-83). Carter Janssen (SR/Rapid City, S.D.) took 21st at 34-over 250 (79-83-88), Drew Jordan (JR/Bakersfield, Calif.) tied for 23rd at 38-over 254 (85-86-83), and Shea Carroll (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) was 31st at 45-over 261 (87-87-87).
Ken Watanasiripong (FR/Temecula, Calif.) took 18th to lead the Jamestown White team, carding a 26-over 242 (84-79-79), followed by Jeremy Williams (FR/Jamestown, ND), tied for 34th at 49-over 265 (89-87-89); Jed Truax (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) 37th at 52-over 268 (88-88-92), and Cam Lebahn (FR/Dilworth, Minn.) 38th at 53-over 269 (87-87-95).
The Jimmies are back in action September 19-20 at the Northwest Iowa Collegiate Invitational at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars, Iowa.
