JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – It was the top match in the state on Tuesday night as the #5 Blue Jay volleyball team battled with #2 Bismarck Century for four long sets before suffering a loss to the Patriots. Set scores were 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-23.

Jamestown and Century each had long runs over the course of the entire match and either side could have won each and every set. Century scored the final three points of set one before going on an 11-0 run to begin the second set and picking up a 2-0 lead in the match.

In set three, Jamestown fell behind 8-1 and the Jays were down 21-16 late before rattling off the final five points of the set to force a fourth. In the fourth set, Jamestown again fought tooth and nail before Century blocked the final point and get the match victory.

Jamestown was led by junior Makenna Nold and senior Bernadette Newman, each finishing with nine kills in the match. Nold was all over the floor, contributing 24 assists and two service aces. Newman also had an ace as Jamestown tallied nine total aces from the service line.

Haylie Hakanson picked up eight kills and Leah Trumbauer finished with five kills. Aspyn Peterson ended the night with 30 digs and Edie Hegerle had an ace plus 13 assists.

Jamestown falls to 11-2 overall and 4-2 in the West Region. Century improves to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the WDA. The Blue Jays have the next nine days off before traveling to Bismarck High next Thursday, September 22nd.
