Coach’s Thoughts:

We played a lot of very good tennis against Mandan. We kept our #1, Kai, out of the line-up as a precaution as he had a physical tweak that needed to be checked out. It was checked out Friday and he was good to go for Saturday’s play.

Casey fought hard against a great player at #2 singles from Mandan playing at a high level. Miles and Emmett had our lone victory on Friday at #2 doubles getting a match of experience before playing number 1 on Saturday.  Senior Gavin played well in his first team varsity match ever.

Alex and Max had the most intense match with many momentum shifts with both playing amazing attacking tennis at times. We even had match points. The way they played that match is how they need to play every match.

At the Sheyenne Invite, Kai played three incredibly solid matches before cramping up at the start of his fourth. He almost knocked off the #1 player from the west and he did take out Davies #1 player. At #2, Trey won a couple matches including a match where he had a match point against him. He lost to the eventual consolation champion.

Alex had two solid wins as well and had the consolation quarters to 5-5 in the second set.  7th graders Emery and Quin had their first taste of varsity and this experience will be great for them moving forward as they will be fighting for varsity spots next year.

Max and Jayden played at a very high level. They lost their first match at 2 doubles in three sets and in their second match, forced a tiebreaker. Coach Jamie was highly impressed both players, but especially with Jayden in his first varsity matches of the season.

Casey and Kellen had themselves a tournament racking up three wins and giving themselves a chance at hardware in the consolation finals. In that match, they won the first set before dropping the next two.  Senior Casey did a great job of mentoring Kellen as Kellen will be fighting for a varsity spot next season as well.

Next action is at home at 2:30pm against West Fargo.
