OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A recently formed Oakes coalition is utilizing a survey to create events for the health and benefit of the community.

The Oakes Healthy Community Coalition conducted a survey of the community on topics residents would like to receive more information on.

Rebeca Undem is the founder of Growing Small Towns and a part of the coalition. She says they have formed a Mental Health Summit to be held on Oct. 5 as their first introductory event in Oakes.

Undem added that Oakes is no stranger to the tragedies that mental illness can bring.

Michelle Thorpe is a graduate going through a nurse practitioner program and will be taking participants through the summit. There will also be local health officials on hand to provide any tools and resources they have.

The event will be held at Growing Small Towns in Oakes on Oct. 5 at 6:30 PM. Undem says they’re also exploring more in depth training for future events in coordination with Dickey County Public Health. She added they’re welcoming input on the interest at this time.
