JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A top-10 matchup inside the NAIA served as the home and conference opener for the University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team on Tuesday night as the Jimmies took down the Raiders in straight sets, winning 25-11, 25-22, and 25-22.
Kalli Hegerle led Jamestown to a 5-0 start in the opening set and the Jimmies used the early momentum to an easy set one victory. UJ hit .286 during the opening set compared to a -.167 attack from Northwestern.
The Raiders responded in set two by leading 7-3 early before Tenley Buddenhagen took Jamestown on a 7-0 run at the service line to take the lead. The Jimmies were able to rely on middles Darienne Johnson, Logan Sherman, and Lexi Olson throughout sets two and three to pull away from Northwestern and earn the sweep.
Anna Holen paced Jamestown with 10 kills and added 12 digs for the double-double. Ellie Holen was the team leader in digs on the night, finishing with 15. Olson and Johnson had six kills apiece while Hegerle and Sherman each had eight kills. Hegerle also had 19 assists and nine digs.
With the win, the Jimmies improve to 12-1 on the year and 1-0 in the GPAC. UJ has won 12 consecutive matches this season and 36 straight home matches in Newman Arena. Jamestown now holds a 54-6 overall record on their home court. The Jimmies host Morningside on Saturday for a 3:00 PM first serve.
