LA GRANDE, Ore.– Eastern Oregon University scored an 84th minute goal that held up to be the game winner, sending the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team to a 2-1 defeat Monday afternoon.
Jamestown (2-3-0) returns home to host Rocky Mountain (Mont.) College Sunday at 2 p.m.
Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes, but a pair of goals came quick in the second half.
Carlos Murillo gave EOU a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute, then 81 seconds later, Axcele Biteghe (SO/Libreville, Gabon) tied the game for the Jimmies. James Moody (SO/Southampton, England) got the assist on Biteghe’s goal.
The score stayed 1-1 until Max Rose set up Kellen Burke in the 84th minute for the second EOU goal. UJ had an attempt just before the final whistle, but Matthew Webb (SO/Hamilton, Scotland)’s shot was saved by Armando Mendoza.
EOU outshot Jamestown 18-10, but shots on goal were much closer, 6-4 in favor of the Mountaineers. Jort Ruijssenaars (FR/Zeist, The Netherlands) had three saves for UJ.
