JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time since 2007, the University of Jamestown football team is 2-0 to start the year as the Jimmies came from behind to win 34-30 over Dakota Wesleyan.

The Jimmies and Tigers played even football through the first 45 minutes of the game and entered the fourth quarter tied at 14 apiece. The final 15 minutes saw the game turn on its head multiple times after the Jimmies threw a pick-six and fumbled a kickoff.

Jamestown faced adversity again in the final eight minutes of the game as UJ trailed 30-20. The Jimmie defense picked up a stop on fourth down to give their offense the ball back with five minutes to go. Cade Torgerson led the UJ offense down the field in just 88 seconds, going five plays and finding Javon Bowie-Monteiro for his second touchdown of the day.

With 3:34 to go, Jamestown’s defense forced Dakota Wesleyan to go three-and-out and to give the offense one more shot with just over two minutes to play. Torgerson and the Jimmies stormed down the field, going 77-yards in four plays when Isaiah Roebuck grabbed his second touchdown of the day to put UJ ahead. Roebuck’s reception came from 26-yards out and was a one-handed catch.

Dakota Wesleyan got the ball back with less than 90 seconds to go and the Tigers marched down to the UJ 18 before Parker Chaffee picked off Austin Lee to secure a win for the Jimmies.

Torgerson went 27-43 through the air, throwing for 384 yards and four touchdowns. In the win, Torgerson became just the fourth Jimmie quarterback of all time to surpass 5,000 passing yards in a career. Micah Madyun led UJ with nine receptions totaling 149 yards. Bowie-Monteiro and Roebuck each had two touchdown catches and combined for 11 grabs and 143 yards.

Jamestown’s defense stopped the Tigers from scoring on their final three possessions of the game and picked off Lee two separate times. Rob Anderson had an interception in the first half before Chaffee’s INT that ended the game. Ezra Belingheri led Jamestown with 10 total tackles and Rashawn Benner had seven.

The Jimmies, now 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, travel to Brair Cliff next Saturday to face the Chargers. Dakota Wesleyan falls to 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in the GPAC. Kickoff for next Saturday’s game in Sioux City is set for 1:00 PM.
