JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was recently reported that cities and counties in non-oil producing parts of the state are awaiting funding from Operation Prairie Dog.
The legislation had wide support following complains from lawmakers in non-oil producing areas who wanted a bigger share of oil tax revenues for their projects back home.
The legislation reconfigures oil tax distributions to set aside $250 million in every two-year budget cycle for counties, cities and airports in non-oil producing areas for such things as roads, bridges and airport projects.
Municipalities get $115 million total. Counties and townships get a combined $115 million, and $20 million is set aside for airport improvements.
Fargo, the state’s largest city will receive an approximate $24 million for infrastructure. Bismarck will receive $14.7 million, Grand Forks with $12.7 million, West Fargo with $10.7 million, and Mandan at $7.4 million.
“These are estimates,” state Fiscal Management Analyst Renae Bloms stated. “They could change if a city is dissolved or if the buckets don’t fill all the way.”
As far as communities locally, it’s estimated Jamestown will receive upwards of $5.3 million and Valley City with $3.6 million.
