FARIBAULT, Minn. (jimmiepride.com)– The University of Jamestown women’s golf opened their season Monday at the MSUM Maverick Invite, with the first of two rounds at the par 72, 5904-yard Faribault Golf Club.
The Jimmies are in fourth place out of six teams with a team score of 62-over 350. Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State Mankato, and a second MSUM team are all tied for the lead after a round of 44-over 332.
Kyra Vogel (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) turned in the top score for UJ on Monday with an 11-over 83 that has her tied for eighth place. Faith Justesen (JR/Hawley, Minn.) is just outside the top 20 after a 16-over 88.
Jayme Carlson (SR/Hartford, S.D.) is tied for 21st at 17-over 89, followed by Haley Malone (SR/Moorhead, Minn.) at 18-over 90 (T-23rd) and Tegan Fee at 20-over 92 (26th).
“I think nerves and some tough breaks got the best of us today,” said Jimmie head coach Zach Hale. “Kyra stepped up in a big way today. We have to comeback tomorrow with better mental sharpness, focus, and confidence in our abilities.”
Tuesday’s final round will begin at 9 a.m.
