OAKES, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes defeated Central Cass 22-14 in an absolute thriller at Tornado Alley.
The game was a constant back-and-forth turnover battle with each team fumbling multiple times and each team throwing a pair of picks. As the rain and temperature continued to fall outside, the game began to heat up.
By the fourth quarter, the game was tied up at 14 a piece, and as time continued to tick down it felt either team was one knockout punch away from stealing one of the biggest wins of their young season.
With 2:30 left on the clock, the tornadoes faked a punt on 4th and 6 to extend their drive in a big way. The fake punt went for just over forty yards and the Tornadoes’ offense fed off the momentum gained. Blayson Donley caught the go-ahead touchdown pass from Xavier Vossler with 45 seconds left on the clock.
Senior Landon Ptacek was able to put an end to the game with a big sack and give the Tornadoes one of the biggest upsets so far this season.
Oakes will take on Oak Grove next Friday at a neutral location due to field damage.
