PICARDVILLE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Harvey woman was killed in a three vehicle crash Friday afternoon that involved a school bus with children on board.

At around 3:40 PM on ND Highway 200 near Picardville, a crash involving a bus belonging to Turtle Lake/Mercer Public Schools, a Chevy Impala, and trailer being towed by a Ford F250.

The Impala was westbound when it drifted across the center line. The pickup traveling eastbound steered right to avoid a collision. The Impala missed the pickup, but struck the side of the trailer and struck the bus head-on.

The bus overturned onto its right side and came to rest in the intersection of ND 200 and 1st Ave. NW.

9 children between the ages of 10 and 12 were evacuated and all standing when units arrived. The bus driver and children all had minor injuries and were transported to Turtle Lake Hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the Impala was a 35 year-old Harvey woman and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

ND 200 was closed between mile marker 220 and 223 for about 5 hours. The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer Rural Fire Department, McClusky Rural Fire Department, Goodrich Fire Department, and North Dakota Department of Transportation.
