JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – One week from today, the Jamestown High School football team takes the field for the first time since hoisting the 11A trophy in Fargo back in November of 2021.
For head coach Bill Nelson, the memories will last forever with the group from last season, but there is still one thing he regrets after the final whistle.
As fun as last year was for coach Nelson and the Blue Jays, that is in the rearview window now as Jamestown focuses on 2022. This experienced coaching staff has put in the time to prepare the Jays for week one.
A lot of the process and day-by-day preparation starts up front for Jamestown in the trenches. Coach Nelson emphasized the importance of those guys on the offensive and defensive lines, as well as the depth of that group.
That offensive line will have the important task of giving senior quarterback Payton Hochhalter time to go through his progressions in the pocket this year as the Jays return a couple of big pieces of the puzzle.
Jamestown opens the year up against Grand Forks Red River on August 26th under the lights at Hansen Stadium. The challenge from Nelson for his side is to come out firing on night one.
With high expectations for Jamestown once again this season, coach Nelson and his staff have big goals for this team off the field as well.
