JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The reigning state champion Blue Jays enter the 2022 season as the preseason favorite to repeat in 11A. Jamestown seniors Jackson Walters, Ethan Gall, and Colton Mewes will be a large part of the recipe for success, especially on the defensive side, for the Blue Jays this year.
The seniors and Walters know that after the success of last season, there is certainly a target on Jamestown’s back heading into a new year.
Excited about the opportunity to be the top dog coming into this year, Jamestown will try to focus on a new season after winning the state title outright for the first time since 1937 a year ago. Mewes knows that even after a great season last year, his role is set to expand for his senior season.
Walters and Gall will play both sides of the ball for Jamestown during this upcoming season, trying to build on the success of last year while also filling the holes left by Adam Kallenbach, Preston Kroeber, Brode Hillstrom, Thomas Allmer, and Devin Beach. Walters and the rest of the Blue Jays are just trying to focus on Grand Fork Red River and week one.
August 26th marks the start of the season for Jamestown with a 7:00 PM start time from Hansen Stadium against the Roughriders. The Blue Jays and Gall are staying loose, having fun, and sticking to those superstitions coming into this year.
Becoming a better teammate was a consistent theme amongst the seniors as Jamestown tries to do something they’ve never done as a program, win back-to-back state titles.
