BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Senior Jarrett Zalumskis broke a tie match in the 74th minute on the road in Bismarck on Tuesday night as the Blue Jays defeated Legacy 1-0 to open up the 2022 regular and WDA season.

Jamestown and Legacy played a tight back-and-forth game for more than 60 minutes before a second yellow card on Legacy’s Benji Rodriguez gave the Blue Jays a man advantage late. Senior Dylan Altringer found Zalumskis for a header in the 74th, propelling Jamestown to an opening night victory over the Sabers.

In net, sophomore Grant Lunde made 14 saves, including nine in the second half. The Blue picked up just one yellow card on the evening as opposed to four by Legacy. Sabers goalkeeper Nathaniel Olheiser made four saves and Liam Horner collected two saves in the loss.

With the win, Jamestown starts the season with three points and a 1-0 record. The Blue Jays have a quick turnaround as Thursday night marks the first home match of the year at 7:30 PM against Minot. The Magi, who were preseason favorites to win the WDA, fell 2-1 to Century on Tuesday.
