The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team is the favorite to win the GPAC this season according to the preseason coaches’ poll released by the conference office Monday.
Jamestown received 11 of 13 first-place votes and totaled 143 points for the poll’s top spot. Briar Cliff (Iowa) received the other two first-place votes and was second with 133 points, while Hastings (Neb.) rounded out the top three with 108 points.
UJ was the 2021 GPAC regular season champion with an 11-0-1 conference record and qualified for the NAIA national tournament, finishing the season with a record of 18-2-1.
In the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, Jamestown was the fourth team in the receiving votes category.
The Jimmies begin the season against No. 9 Aquinas (Mich.) in St. Louis, Mo., on August 26. The first home match is set for September 11 against Rocky Mountain (Mont.) at 12 p.m.
The 2022 GPAC women’s soccer season schedule will consist of 12 league games as all 13 teams will compete for the conference crown. Presentation College will again play in the GPAC as an affiliate member in men’s and women’s soccer.
