JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Cade Torgerson finished as a GPAC All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2021 after passing for just under 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns on the season. Torgerson credits the chemistry and trust he and his wide receivers have built over the last three seasons as to why UJ had good success through the air last season.
Now, this year, the Jimmie offense looks to improve upon its numbers, especially on the ground.
Jamestown as a team was held to under 50 yards per game rushing last season as the Jimmies trotted five freshmen out on the offensive line. Associate head coach and offensive coordinator Jason Challeen talked about how that youthful group gained a lot of good experience.
A heavy portion of the ground game may fall on the shoulders of Frankie Ingraldi once again this season. Both head coach Brian Mistro and Challeen said Ingraldi’s growth during the spring was noteworthy.
Big play possibilities and explosive moments on offense could once again come from the group of talented wideouts in the Jamestown locker room. Fifth-year senior Javon Bowie-Monteiro talked about growing his game the past three seasons as well as some of the more intriguing players he faced off against last season during conference play.
And while the Jimmies only posted a 2-9 overall record last season, Challeen keyed in on some significant changes since Mistro has taken over and the continued growth of UJ each year.
Before Jamestown gets into the conference season with Dakota Wesleyan visiting Hansen Stadium on September 3rd, the Jimmies will take on bitter rival Valley City State in the Paint Bucket Game. Torgerson talked about the process of getting ready for a big opponent in week one.
The Paint Bucket Game takes place on August 25th under the lights at 7:00 PM at Hansen Stadium. Full coverage can be heard on Jamestown 107.1/1400 or online at newsdakota.com.
Tomorrow on our Jamestown 107.1 Fall Sports Preview, UJ football head coach Brian Mistro joins us to talk last season, spring and fall camp, and expectations in 2022.
