JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Recently, several Gavilon Grain silos in Montana and North Dakota were acquired by Columbia Grain International (CGI).
This includes the assets and employees of New Rockford, Carrington, Rogers, and Jamestown. Marubeni owns both Gavilon and Columbia Grain and made the decision to divest in the majority of the Gavilon enterprise.
Jeff Van Pevenage is the CEO for CGI.
Van Pevenage says they will continue to see the same service for major commodities in North Dakota including wheat, corn, and soybeans.
CGI is also exploring a marketing tool they call “Producer Solutions” that gives growers more hybrid type contracts they can add to their plans and get better returns.
Van Pevenage says they’ve already been seeing some success.
As CGI continues their transition, Van Pevenage says they’re also keeping an eye on the Green Bison Soycrushing facility that is being built at the Spiritwood Energy Park. He says this may have an effect on trade flows seen in the area.
Acquired facilities may see handling more specialty crops, meaning more labor and structural changes. Van Pevenage says they’re looking at their Valley City facility to handle different crops such as dry beans.
