WEST FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Post 14 Eagles lost a heartbreaker to the Mandan Chiefs on Friday night at Young Field as Post 40 outlasted Jamestown 14-12 in nine innings.

Jamestown and Mandan traded blows back and forth similar to a boxing match on Friday night but ultimately Post 40, with their season on the line, had the final say. Post 14 struck for three runs in the first inning and scored four runs in the fifth but Mandan was able to put up six runs over the final two innings to force extras.

In extra innings, neither side scored in the eighth before Mandan scored twice off of one hit in the ninth to take the lead for good. Chiefs pitcher Seth Arenz picked up the win and Gage Orr was handed the loss for Jamestown. The two teams combined to throw eight pitchers on the night. Mandan and Jamestown tallied 26 total runs and 28 hits.

Jackson Walters led the Eagles by going 4-for-6 with two runs driven in and two runs scored. Mason Lunzman drove in four runs in a 3-for-5 performance and Gage Orr was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Despite the loss, Jamestown will still play for the AA Legion Baseball State Tournament Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Young Field. The Eagles will take on the winner of the West Fargo/Mandan game which takes place at 12:00 PM.
