JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Monday, Aug. 1, at 1:00 pm, the North Dakota Trooper’s Association (NDTA) will hold a ceremony to replace the headstone of NDHP Trooper Beryl McLane, the only NDHP Trooper killed in the line of duty.
McLane was killed in a car crash near LaMoure on Friday, July 30, 1954. His patrol car was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver traveling on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed. McLane had served the patrol for 13 years.
The North Dakota Trooper’s Association, along with an anonymous donor, purchased the new headstone to honor Trooper McLane. The ceremony will be at Highland Home Cemetery, 3309 Hwy 281 SE, Jamestown. In addition to current and former NDHP officers and members of the NDTA in attendance, the NDHP Honor Guard will participate in the ceremony.
The public is welcome to attend.
