JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A national community-building campaign to promote police and community partnerships returns August 2.

National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. It’s goal is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

“Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances,” the organization states online.

The Jamestown Police Department joined the nationwide campaign a few years ago.

Scott Edinger is the chief of police in Jamestown.

Popular attractions such as inflatable games and the Jamestown Rural Fire Department’s foam pit will be present. Chief Edinger says they’ll have participation from a wide range of emergency agencies that serve the community.

National Night Out will be celebrated from 6 to 9 PM on Tuesday, August 2 at McElroy Park. It is free and open to the public.
