JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Payton Hochhalter threw a complete game shutout on Saturday night at Jack Brown Stadium as the Jamestown Eagles knocked off the Minot Vistas 5-0 in a play-in game for the AA Legion Baseball Tournament.
Hochhalter, a soon-to-be senior at Jamestown High School, faced little trouble on the mound throughout the night as he allowed five hits and struck out three Vista batters in the complete game victory. At the plate, he was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Post 14 took the lead in the bottom of the second after Minot committed four errors defensively. Jamestown loaded the bases thanks to three Minot errors before Max Fronk brought in Hochhalter and Preston Gall to make it 2-0. Jamestown was able to push Gage Orr across off the fourth Vista error of the inning and the 3-0 advantage held from there on.
The Eagles got one run in each of the third and fourth innings with Orr picking up the RBI in the third and Jacoby Nold driving in the fifth run during the fourth. Jamestown totaled six hits on the evening and had two errors. Minot finished with five hits and five errors.
