LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The District 7 Legion Baseball Tournament began Monday evening in LaMoure. The reigning champs get the honors of hosting this year’s tournament. The winner of the tournament will get the right to play in the Class B State Legion Baseball Tournament to be played in Garrison on July 27-31.

Oakes 18, Fairmount 2

Oakes Post 36 jumped out to an early lead over Fairmount Post 106 and took home an 18-2 victory on Monday.

Oakes scored on RBI singles by Howie Neustel, Gaven Christianson, Conor Schall, and David Schmitz, an RBI groundout by Fletcher Willprecht, and four errors in the first inning which gave them a 12-0 advantage in the opening frame. Neustel, Christianson, Bryley Haberman, Brogan Roney, Willprecht, and Schall all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the following innings.

Steele Hansen got the win on the mound for Oakes Post 36. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two runs on only one hit over four innings, striking out seven and walking one.  Schmitz threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen allowing no runs.

Oakes Post 36 tallied ten hits with Schmitz and Willprecht both getting multiple hits.  Oakes Post 36 didn’t commit a single error in the field. Christianson had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.

Oakes advances and will play tomorrow at 1:30 in the semifinal round of the winner’s bracket against Lisbon. Oakes won at Lisbon during the regular season. Lisbon won their quarterfinal game against Wahpeton B’s 7-4. The game can be heard on KDDR 1220 AM/100.3 FM The Tornado, streamed online at newsdakota.com, or on The Tornado app.

LaMoure 8, Edgeley 2

LaMoure Post 19 had all cylinders firing on offense in the final game of the day winning big over Edgeley Post 146 by a final score of 8-2.

In the first inning, LaMoure Post 19 got their offense started.  Landon Piehl doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. LaMoure scored four runs in the fifth inning.  The offensive onslaught by Post 19 was led by Anthony Hanson, Garrett Hebl, James Sandness, and Conner Johnson, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Johnson was credited with the victory for LaMoure Post 19. The bulldog allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

LaMoure collected ten hits.  Sandness, Piehl, and Hanson all collected multiple hits in the win. Post 19 will have the day off tomorrow before playing in the championship game of the winner’s bracket. They will face the winner of the Lisbon/Oakes at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
