JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Post 14 Eagles improved their standing for the AA Legion baseball tournament on Thursday at Jack Brown Stadium as Jamestown picked up a pair of one-run victories over the Williston Keybirds.

G1: JAMESTOWN 8, WILLISTON 7

A Preston Gall sacrifice fly combined with a defensive error by Williston allowed the Eagles to go in front in the bottom of the sixth inning in a come-from-behind victory in game one. Jamestown led 3-0 briefly before Williston struck for seven runs in the fourth, all coming with two outs. The Eagles immediately scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth off a Gall double which kept Jamestown in striking distance until the sixth inning.

At the plate, Gall was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Connor Hoyt led the Eagles with three hits, scoring twice. The middle of the Jamestown order did the bulk of the damage, scoring all eight runs. Payton Hochhalter, Jackson Walters, and Carson Orr all had two hits and two runs scored. Walters earned the victory on the hill in relief, going 3.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two.

G2: JAMESTOWN 1, WILLISTON 0

Hochhalter took the hill in game two and never gave up the baseball en route to a shutout win and doubleheader sweep over the Keybirds. Hochhalter struck out four and allowed just one hit on the night. Jacoby Nold picked up the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Gall to walk it off and give the Eagles the win.

Jamestown, now 11-14 overall on the season, will wrap up the AA year on Sunday in Bismarck against the Governors. The Eagles currently are in sixth place in the AA standings and would avoid a play-in game for the postseason tournament should seeding hold true.
