Diane Weispfenning, 69, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2022. She chose to embrace life while living several years with cancer.
Diane was born in 1953 to E. Myron and Colleen Erickson and grew up on the family farm near Cooperstown, ND. She attended and graduated from Cooperstown Public Schools, graduated with a BS in Medical Technology from the University of North Dakota, and later a Masters of Management from the University of Mary, North Dakota.
She married her best friend and love, W. William Weispfenning, Jr. (Bill). The couple set up Christian homes first in Jamestown, ND, then Oakes, ND, before moving back to Jamestown.
Diane worked in the Jamestown hospital laboratory for a short time before moving to Oakes where she led and worked in the laboratory at the Oakes hospital for several years. She then was promoted to the leadership teams of the Oakes, Lisbon, Valley City and Carrington Hospitals. Gifted with organizational skills, she integrated and managed the then, new Critical Access Standards and Rules at these rural hospitals in the areas of mission, quality assurance, risk management and compliance.
She was elected to the board of ND Society of Clinical Laboratory Science, served as President in 1998-1999, and was named “Member of the Year” in 1999. Diane was active in the Presbyterian Churches of Oakes and Jamestown, serving as Ruling Elder in both, and was honored to receive “Honorary Life Membership” in Presbyterian Women. Diane was an active member for over 40 years in Chapters O and K in the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Her hobbies included entertaining and cooking in their home for family and friends, gardening, and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, sons and daughter-in-law, Ryan (Anna), and Michael; grandchildren, William, Christian, and Katherine Weispfenning; sister, Pam (Curtis) Sommer; brothers and sister-in-law Glenn Roemen, John Weispfenning, Bonnie Weispfenning,; several nieces, nephews and two uncles.
Proceeding her in death are her parents, sister, brother-in-law, aunts and uncles.
A committal service at Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, will be held on Friday, July 15 at 12:45 pm for family and friends followed by the memorial service at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, ND, at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Oakes Hospital Foundation or Jamestown Regional Medical Foundation.
