Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Bismarck Governors recorded a pair of inning ending double plays in the first 2 innings and a rare triple play in the sixth inning as they defeated Carrington Post 25 8-2 in the opening game of the 2022 Phil Brown Classic at Jack Brown Stadium.
Carrington’s Grady Shipman singled and later scored on Bismarck’s second error of the inning and left the bases loaded before Carrington hit into an inning ending double play. Post 25 loaded the bases again in the second inning 0n 3 consecutive hits from Owen Hagel, Kyle Johnson, and Jack Erickson (3-4, run scored), but another double play turned by Bismarck off the bat of Shipman kept the game 1-0 in favor of Post 25. Post 1 of Bismarck turned a triple play in the sixth inning after an error and a hit batter, Hagel looped a ball in to short right field and Bismarck threw out both base runners who thought the ball was going to land for a base hit.
The Governors scored 3 runs in the second inning, one run in the third, 2 runs in the 4th, and 2 more in the 6th for there 8 runs. Tommy Kraljic went 4-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Carter Krueger (0-0, BB and HBP) and Isaac Pegors (1-1, BB) both scored 2 runs as well for Bismarck. Bismarck improved to 17-7 overall and Carrington dropped to 4-7 overall.
