Rick’s Last Story

Richard Marvin Huseby, or Rick as everyone called him, life started on March 18 1952. He was born into the world to Lorraine (Ruud) and Marvin Huseby. Two sisters welcomed him home, Sharon and Linda.

Rick passed away on July 5, 2022 at CHI Mercy Hospital, Valley City, ND. He had a short battle with cancer, but his faith in our Lord, he accepted everything that happened. He knew what was waiting for him when he left this world. Rick grew up in the Lutheran Faith attending St. Petri Lutheran Church, Nome, ND.

He grew up in Nome, telling stories how you could ride your bike anywhere. Rick loved riding his bike up to Grandpa Ole’s station so he could fix his bike. He attended school in Nome until the 8th grade when the school closed. He then went to Fingal High School where he met many wonderful and lifelong friends, graduating in 1970. When Rick was in the 5th grade the family moved out of Nome, so one year he attended school in Oriska, ND. Here he met his future wife, Linda Peterson.

Rick joined the National Guard during his senior year. He was sent to Ft. Lenardwood, Missouri. What he didn’t like about it was that it was too hot. Rick was in the guards for 22 years in the Valley City Unit and in the Lisbon Unit. In 1999 the cooking staff of the Valley City Unit was a finalist for a Philip A. Connelly Award. He was very proud of this and his years in the Military.

Rick worked for many farmers during his high school years. After returning from boot camp in 1970 he worked for the Barnes County Highway Department. In 1972 he started working at Melroe Bobcat, Gwinner, ND, where he continued for the next 42 years. Rick retired July 12, 2013.

On Aug 6, 1974, Rick was united in marriage to Linda Peterson at St. Petri Lutheran Church. They were married for 33 years until Linda’s passing on December 15, 2010.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, fishing in many area lakes, plus in Canada and Alaska. He could tell a lot of fishing stories.

Rick was united in marriage to Joyce (Thompson) McClean on June 14, 2013, moving to Valley City until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Peterson Swenson Post 83, American Legion, Nome, serving in the honor guard for many years. After moving to Valley City he joined the VFW Honor guard. He was very proud of what the Honor Guard stood for and that he was a part of it.
