DICKINSON, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Post 14 Eagles were on the road in Dickinson on Thursday night as the Roughriders took down the Eagles 13-8 and 11-1 (six innings) in a Legion baseball doubleheader.
GAME ONE: DICKINSON 13, JAMESTOWN 8
The Eagles scored in the top of the first inning after Payton Hochhalter drove in Connor Hoyt to push Jamestown in front 1-0. Dickinson scored two runs in the bottom of the first before the Eagles briefly regained the lead 4-2 going into the bottom of the third. In the third, Dickinson put up 10 runs, all coming with two outs, to grab the lead for good. Hoyt was handed the loss on the hill, going 2.2 innings and allowing nine runs. Thomas Newman pitched 3.1 innings in relief, striking out four and giving up just two runs. At the plate, Carson Orr and Preston Gall each went 2-for-3. Orr led the Eagles with three RBIs and Gall, as well as Hochhalter, had two RBIs each.
GAME TWO: DICKINSON 11, JAMESTOWN 1 (Six innings)
Jamestown committed two big errors on defense in game two against Dickinson and the Roughriders capitalized by scoring 10 runs off Jacoby Nold in a mercy rule victory to round out the doubleheader. Nold pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 10 total runs, five of which were earned. The right hander picked up three strikeouts but walked six. Nold was the only Eagle to drive in a run in game two as Jamestown picked up just three hits.
Post 14 drops to 7-13 overall on the year and will return to Jack Brown Stadium next Wednesday when the Eagles host the Gillette Riders. Jamestown hosts the Phil Brown Classic starting next Friday, July 8th against Mandan at 7 PM.
