VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Legion baseball team resumed their regular season action on Wednesday when they hosted Park River for a pair of games at Charlie Brown Field. The Royals would take the first game 9-1, Park River would then take the second game, which was only 5 -innings, by a score of 8-5.

Game 1: Valley City 9 Park River 1

The bats for the Royals didn’t wait too long to get going as they would score 2 runs in the 2nd inning. They would then add 4 more runs in the 3rd inning, and then tacking on 3 more in the 4th inning. For the Valley City offense, Ethan Miller and Broden Muske both went 3/4 at the plate. Devyn Thornton would go 2/4 at the dosh and score 2 runs. Joe Cummings would drive home a pair of RBI’s in the first game. On the mound, Adam Bitz got the start and went the full 7-innings picking up the win. Bitz would only allow 1 run in the ball game and would strike out 7 batters.

Game 2: Park River 8 Valley City 5 (5-innings)

Park River would get the victory in the shortened second game of the double header. A big 5-run top of the 5th inning would propel Park River to the win. Valley City would score 3-runs in the bottom of the first inning, and then a couple in the bottom of the 3rd but then the offense would be stalled. For the Royals offense, Owen Struble would go 2/3 at the plate and drive in 2-RBI’s. Robert Fischer and Scot Rhode would both go 3/3 at the dish.  Kai Kringlie and Max Mehus would each drive in an RBI in the loss.

Valley City will be off until after the 4th of July weekend. They return to game action on July 6th.
