VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Post 60 Royals traveled to Wahpeton on Tuesday to take on Post 20 in a double header. The home team would take both games on this day, taking the first game 5-2, and following that up with a close 9-8 win over Valley City. With the pair of losses the Royals record now sits at 15-7 on the season.

Game 1: Wahpeton 5 Valley City 2

In the bottom of the 1st inning Wahpeton would score the games first run. Jackson Fliflet would single to center to bring in Tori Ulich from 3rd base. Wahpeton would extend their lead in the home half of the 4th inning by scoring 3 runs. Josiah Hofman would provide an RBI single to double the lead to 2-0. After an error and a wild pitch, the score would then be extended to 4-0. Valley City would fight back in the top of the 5th inning by scoring a pair of runs. Devyn Thornton would single on a line drive to centerfield driving in Adam Bitz and Ethan Miller to cut the Wahpeton lead to 4-2. However, Wahpeton would answer in the bottom of the 5th inning as Tori Ulich would drive in Caden Kappes with and RBI single to give Wahpeton the 5-2 lead, the score they would eventually win by.

Game 2: Wahpeton 9 Valley City 8

Just like in the first game, Wahpeton would score a run in the home half of the first inning. Jackson Fliflet once again providing the RBI as he would double to center and bring home Caden Kappes. The top of the 3rd inning would see Valley City take a 3-1 lead. Braxton Jorissen would bring home Kai Kringlie with a sacrifice fly to even things up 1-1. Gavin Gerhardt would then drive in a pair with a triple giving the Royals the 3-1 lead. Wahpeton would then put up 3-runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take the 4-3 lead. Bottom of the 5th inning is where Wahpeton would pad their lead as they would score 4 more runs. The big hit came from Caden Kappes who, with the bases loaded would double to centerfield that would clear the bases and give the home team the 9-4 lead. Valley City would not go away quietly. they would score 4 runs in the top of the 6th. Gavin Gerhardt once again another extra base hit as he would double and clear the bases scoring Zach Sykora, Adam Bitz, and Braxton Jorissen making it a 9-8 lead in favor of Wahpeton, the score they would ultimately win by.

Valley City will host Park River on Wednesday in a 7-inning game, followed by a 5-inning game at Charlie Brown Field. First pitch for game 1 is scheduled for 5:30PM.
