VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com ) – The Valley City Post 60 Royals hosted the Fargo Post 2 Jets in a double header on Tuesday at Charlie Brown Field. Valley City sweeping the double header, taking game 1 by a score of 9-5, and winning the second game 12-0.
Game 1: Valley City 9 Fargo 5
In game 1 of the double header the Royals would score a run in each of the first 3-innings, however they would find themselves tied with Fargo going into the bottom of the 6th inning. That is when the Valley City bats would provide 5 runs for the home team and ultimately give them the win. Braxton Jorissen with a home run and 4 RBI’s in the win, Devyn Thornton would drive in a pair of runs in the game as well. On the mound, Ethan Miller went the distance giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 5 on his way to picking up the win.
Game 2: Valley City 12 Fargo 0
In the second game of the double header the Valley City bats stole the show. They would get 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd, a pair of runs in the 3rd, and a whopping 9 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Gavin Gerhardt would go 3/3 at the plate and score 2 runs. Joe Cummings would drive in a run while providing a pair of hits. Valley City would get 14 hits in total in the blow out win. On the mound Max Mehus went the full 5 innings in the shortened game. he would only allow 1 hit and would strike out 5.
Coach Chase Carpenter had this to say after sweeping the double header. ” Fighting back to take game one was good to see, and then playing like we did in game two was very promising. I think we are slowly coming around.”
With the pair of wins Valley City improves their record to 10-5 on the season. They will travel to take on Devils Lake on Thursday.
