JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A 20-year-old cyclist was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash north of Jamestown.
The bicycle was southbound on Highway 20 roughly 10 miles North of Jamestown at around 12:30 p.m. A pickup was also southbound when it came upon the cyclist and failed to yield, striking the rear tire.
The cycle and rider enter the West ditch where they both came to rest. The driver of the pickup left the scene, but returned to locate the cyclist. The cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Northbrook, Il cyclist’s name is being withheld pending family notification. Pick up driver 78 year-old James Charles Lees of Jamestown was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Game and Fish, and Jamestown Ambulance.
