JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Heading into it’s 28th year, organizers have their work cutout for the annual Jamestown Kite Festival June 10, 11, and 12.

Wings on Strings Kite Club Members Mike Gee and Chris Dodson originally started the event as a competition, but it quickly turned into what spectators will see today. Dodson says support from the community has been a key component in the event’s success.

Gee added feedback and response has helped grow KiteFest to bring in hundreds from the region, state, and nation.

The three-day festival starts Friday on Meidinger Park Field with an open fly, but each day features something for all ages. From kite building to professional kite fliers, spectators are encouraged to stop by each day and different hours because the setting and skies are sure to change.

Dodson says they will also host some members of the No Knots Kite Team, a squad of professional Quad-Line kite fliers that perform choreographed routines to music at events around the world.

An “autograph book” is available for the young ones to get signatures from their favorite kite fliers with the opportunity to turn them in for a prize.

Gee adds they get spectators and fliers from around the globe to show up in Jamestown for KiteFest.

The skies will be filled with homemade kites, professional kites, and even kites that are as big as houses.

Gee pointed out that all kiters welcome questions too.
