JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For two years now, University of Jamestown students taking BUSN 455: Strategic Management during the spring semester have participated in an online exercise known as The Business Strategy Game.

This year, nine UJ teams competed in the worldwide simulation, going up against more than 5,000 teams from 233 colleges and universities across the globe. The students’ exceptional work throughout the semester-long simulation earned four of the UJ teams Top-100 finishes.

If you’re not familiar with The Business Strategy Game, here’s how it works: student teams are tasked with running an athletic footwear company and compete against rival companies run by other students for global market leadership. It’s up to each team to use their business savvy to develop a winning competitive strategy and boost their company’s earnings.

UJ’s student teams rose to the challenge. Wesley Kemp, Tanner Hansen, Cam Hoyt, and Trevor Fuerst’s Company G finished #1 in Return on Equity (ROE) in Week 17. That same week, Bryce Hooper, Tomas Garcia Vasquez, Sidney Luna-Long, and Blake Snyder’s Company F finished #3 in ROE.

The other UJ teams that earned a spot in the Top 100 during the semester were Brooks Canfield and Braxton Hewitt – Company D; and Jackie Meiklejohn, Kyler McGillis, and David Martin – Company I.

“The students in University of Jamestown’s spring 2022 Strategic Management course were outstanding,” says Karen H. Crane, Associate Professor who taught the course.

“Every week throughout the semester, they demonstrated their business knowledge and expertise, as well as their ability to compete with undergraduate and graduate students from across the country and around the globe. It is truly a privilege and a joy working with UJ students on a daily basis, and I cannot wait to see the positive impact they each have on the world.”
