North Dakota’s Department of Transportation is reminding people about an upcoming deadline to obtain a Real ID driver’s license or ID card.

The deadline is May 3rd, 2023.

Brad Schaffer is DOT’s Driver’s License Division Director.

Schaffer says 51 percent of North Dakotans have a real ID – slightly higher than the national average of 49 percent. He says the pandemic slowed things down. But Schaffer says now that things are more open, DOT wants to make the push now, so that anyone who wants a Real ID can get one.

So what do you need to get a Real ID?

Schaffer says you will need to make an appointment at your local driver’s license office. He says many can be “same day” appointments.
