JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown’s High School baseball team scored a couple of early runs against #1 West Fargo Sheyenne on Thursday night but the Blue Jays couldn’t hold down the Mustangs offense for long, falling 10-3 in the opening round of the Class A State Tournament.

Jamestown scored a run in the second inning despite not recording a hit as courtesy runner Preston Gall scored on a wild pitch. The Blue Jays pushed their lead to 2-0 in the third off another wild pitch, but West Fargo Sheyenne finally got the bats moving to go ahead 3-2 after three.

Gage Orr picked up an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game at three after Michael Mahoney doubled into the gap. The game wouldn’t stayed tied for long however as the Mustangs poured on seven more runs over the course of the next three innings to get the win over Jamestown and eliminate the Blue Jays from championship contention.

Jamestown is headed to the consolation bracket in the Class A State Tournament and will now face Fargo North Friday at approximately 1:45 PM at Jack Brown Stadium. The best the Blue Jays can hope for is a fifth place finish. Coverage of Friday’s game can be heard on Jamestown 1071, newsdakota.com, or on the Jamestown 1071 app.
