(NDAgConnection.com) – The last week of May saw farmers catching up with planting on all but spring wheat, according to today’s Crop Progress Report, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Just 72% of the crop was planted in six selected states, with Minnesota (53% planted) and Montana (59% planted) running the furthest behind, compared to a five-year average of 92% planted at this stage of the season.

The story is much more positive for corn (86% planted vs. 87% average), soybeans (66% vs. 67%), and sorghum (40% vs. 43%).

The quality of winter wheat in 18 selected states, meanwhile, continues to hover just below 30% good-excellent compared to a rating of 48% good-excellent for last year’s crop.
