BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Annie Nabwe became the first Class A female athlete in 30 years to win the javelin, shot put, and discus over the weekend as Jamestown took third at the Class A State Meet.
The Blue Jays wrapped up the three-day meet on Saturday with a team total of 76, five points better than West Fargo who took fourth. Fargo Davies won the Class A meet, posting a 137, and Century was second with 105 points.
Nabwe posted a new PR in all three events and broke the state record in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 11 inches. On Friday, she repeated as champion in the discus throw with a toss of 154 feet, 7 inches, and then threw the javelin 144 feet, 9 inches – 17 feet farther than second place.
Jamestown put up a third-place finish in the 4×100 meter relay with the team of Allysah Larson, Hunter Petersen, Julia Skari, and Yolanda Nabwe running a 49.35. Y. Nabwe finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and took fourth in the 100-meter dash, right behind Annie who was third.
Skari and Bernadette Belzer took third and fourth for the Blue Jays in the 300-meter hurdles, running times of 45.41 and 46.91.
Thomas Allmer placed fourth in the discus throw on the boys’ side and finished fifth in the shot put to end his Blue Jay career. Preston Kroeber ran a 40.69 in the 300-meter hurdles, good for sixth place in the finals. Jamestown’s boys team finished with 12 team points for 15th.
