JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay baseball team outlasted Minot in game one of a doubleheader on Friday night as Jamestown topped the Magi 6-5 in ten innings.

It was a chilly night at Jack Brown Stadium but Jamestown prevailed despite committing six errors defensively. The Blue Jays fell behind 2-0 until the second when Max Fronk drove in Reagan Sortland with two outs. After the single, Connor Hoyt drove in Gage Orr and Fronk to make it 3-2. Hoyt then scored on a wild pitch to push the Jays ahead 4-2.

Jamestown held that lead until the sixth before Minot regained a 5-4 advantage. The Blue Jays produced a run in the bottom of the inning by drawing two walks, getting hit by a pitch, and scoring on another wild pitch. The Magicians and Jays stayed even at five until the bottom of the tenth.

With two outs, Walters drew a 3-2 walk and a pitch hit Payton Hochhalter to put runners on first and second. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Carson Orr took a ball to the right side of the infield and Minot booted it into shallow center, allowing Walters to score and Jamestown to get the win.

Hoyt got the win in relief, tossing three innings without allowing a hit and striking out four batters. Walters got the start, pitching seven full frames and striking out five.

In game two, Minot got the upper hand with a three-run fourth inning which helped the Magi take down Jamestown 6-4. Thomas Newman for the Jays tossed all seven innings, allowing just three earned runs. C. Orr was 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI and Reagan Sortland also drove in two.

Jamestown wraps up the WDA season with a 10-8 record and will wait to see whether they are the five or six seed after tomorrow’s Dickinson/Minot doubleheader. If Magi lose two games, the Blue Jays would take the five seed. Jamestown, now 10-9 overall, wraps up its season on Saturday against Fargo Davies at 1 PM. The West Region tournament begins on Thursday in Mandan.
