JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown racer is dedicating space on his car to help raise money for the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Cancer Center.
Brian Hanson Jr. has sold sponsorships and decals to help give back in a way to keep people off the road who may need cancer care. He says one of those patients who were saved miles was his dad, who was diagnosed with lung cancer twice.
Hanson Jr. has dedicated his entire 2022 race season to cancer patients.
Today and through the rest of the season, he’ll be selling sponsorships for $5. You’ll then take a ribbon and write the name of a loved one or family who has been affected by cancer.
Hanson Jr. says this will go all season long and at the end, he wants to donate it back to the Cancer Center.
The JRMC Cancer Center opened two years ago, on June 13, 2019, in partnership with Sanford Health’s Roger Maris Cancer Center. Since then, JRMC has saved 500,000 miles of travel for people from more than 80 communities.
“When we opened, we anticipated offering this community 100 chemotherapy infusions each month,” said JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson. “Today, we offer 250 to 300 a month.”
For JRMC and the cancer patients it serves, he is an inspiration, Jackson said.
“Brian and the region rallied to make cancer care possible,” she said. “It is hard battle this disease, however, Brian and the community demonstrate that no one is on this road alone. At JRMC, we know that care is better close to home. Reducing travel means less wear and tear on a vehicle. It also means less wear and tear on a body.”
So far, Hanson raised about $1,100.
Sponsorships can be purchased through the JRMC Foundation, Hanson Tire Service, or at the race track all season.
