JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Due to the recent rain events and groundwater levels, the City Engineering Department would like to remind residents to run sump pump discharge water into the storm sewer system by placing sump pump hoses out to the curb or at a minimum outside of the structure.

Do not run sump pump discharge water into the Sanitary Sewer System located inside the home or building.

It is a violation of City of Jamestown Municipal Code to do so.

The City’s Main Sanitary Lift Station is experiencing high run times and we are trying to bring them back into the normal range.

The City of Jamestown Municipal Code states as follows:
Sec. 30-36. – Draining rain, surface or ground water into sewers prohibited. a) No person shall permit rain, surface, or ground waters to be carried into the sewer system. Rainwater leaders shall not be connected with or run into the sewer system.

(b) Drain tile, sump pumps or other systems designed to eliminate the accumulation of seepage or other ground waters shall not be connected with or run into the sewer system. (Ord. No. 1080, 9-6-94)
