TOWER CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – There were no injuries when a propane truck caught fire west of Tower City Wednesday morning.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Sergeant Tom Herzig reports the driver was traveling eastbound on I-94 when he “heard a loud bang” and noticed shredded tire in his rear-view mirror. The driver slowed and stopped on the shoulder when the blown tire ignited.
The driver used a fire extinguisher but was unable to keep the fire out.
A McKenzie County Deputy passing through attempted to quell the fire with a second extinguisher, but the fire reignited. A Barnes County Sheriff’s deputy arrived and attempted to extinguish the fire as well.
Members of the Tower City Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguish the flames. No propane leaked or caught fire and the truck and trailer were towed.
Driver Mark Wendt of Warner, SD was not injured. The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
