VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s National EMS recognition week (May 15 – 21) as we thank those professionals who provide critical emergency medical services in communities across the country.

The Miller family has owned the Barnes County Ambulance Service since 1985. Melissa Miller said we would like to recognize past and present EMS workers this week.

In the June 14th election, Barnes County residents will be asked to increase a tax to help with the cost of ambulance services. For example, on a $100-thousand-dollar home your taxes would increase by $5 annually if measure 3 is approved.
Barnes County Ambulance Service Medical Director Dr. Tanya Diegel talked about the importance behind this measure on the Barnes County ballot.

According to the Barnes County Ambulance 2022 status report, expenses have increased 29 percent since 2018 for medical supplies and fuel. The report said revenue decreased by 20 percent due to an increase in the number of no-pays, patients without insurance and Medicare/Medicaid denying claims.
